Junior Endeavourers is one of three youth groups at Emmanuel Church and is open to all young people in the age range 9 and a half to 12 and a half years old.
The group meets every week during school term times, on a Lord's Day morning between 9.45 & 10.45am, and on a Friday evening between 6.30 & 8.00pm. All meetings are in the Church building in Wilton Road, unless otherwise stated. Young people may only attend the Friday meetings is they keep up a fairly regular Lord's Day attendance.
The Lord's Day meeting is devoted to learning the main stories and truths from the Bible in an interesting and relevant way. Friday is the group's fun night where we have a wide-ranging programme of games and activities. Every four weeks of so an extra-special activity is arranged - usually on a Friday night, but occasionally on a Saturday instead - such as bowling, swimming, ice skating, ringo bobbing(!), Laser shooting (!!) or other similar outing.
The running of Junior Endeavourers is subsidised by Emmanuel Church, and no charge is made to attend the group. However, an entirely voluntary collection is taken up as part of the Lord's Day morning meeting, and on Fridays there is a tuck shop selling low priced sweets and drinks. When we go on special outings a charge is usually made to cover some of the costs incurred by the group - we try to limit this to no more than £3.50 per young person. If there is going to be a charge, we will always let you know beforehand.
The group operates a number of schemes to encourage and reward attendance and good behaviour, such as the special outings. In addition, young people are given tokens for good behaviour, remembering Bible verses, completing optional worksheets. These token can be exchanged for books or food from the tuck shop.
